Platinum is a silver shiny material used for ornaments. It is very expensive as it is quite rare. Silver and platinum may look a little alike but the price difference is huge. One of the biggest difference between the two is that silver goes black when exposed to air and water for a long time however, platinum remains unaffected. For the designer jewelers diamond and platinum is a winning combination. Platinum explorations are much tougher as compared to that of gold or any other substance for that matter. The reason for the same, as mentioned above, this being a rare substance is found in very few viable deposits. It’s not as abundant as gold and hence, the cost is on to the higher side. Platinum’s deposits could only be found in three major regions on the face of the earth - South Africa, North America and Russia. 2/3 or the supplies are through the deposits found in South Africa and then Russia stands next by supplying ¼ of the world platinum production. The rest is taken care of by the North America and few small countries where this is found almost in negligible quantities. However, South Africa, North America and Russia are the now deposits for platinum deposits however, the Global geological organization has not given up hope for the other platinum exploration projects. As per the surveys that they have conducted, they have reasons to believe that there are other resources that are rich in platinum that have not yet being explored. Talking in that direction, few names that have come up are – Zambia, Australia, Chile, Zimbabwe and Indonesia. The possibility of ever-rising prices of platinum might start platinum exploration in these regions soon, resulting in greater platinum global production. Let’s be optimistic, who knows that tomorrow, once the unexplored platinum deposits are explored, the platinum prices might get to the reach of every one who desires it.
